Seamless polyurethane PU Polymeric Track is used on athletics tracks when specified for high level competition. It is applied usually in 3 parts where the base coat is installed as a black polymeric surface on a paving machine. Once the black base layer is installed it is needed to be cured which usually takes 24-48 hours. Once cured the whole area is flooded with two part polyurethane binder with rubber granule chippings cast into the flooded polyurethane. Further EPDM rubber crumb is scattered on the area onto the uncured surface so this leaves a loose rubber crumb wearing layer.
This PU surface system is known to many athletics tracks specialists as the sandwich polymeric system. The sandwich system is a UK Athletics and International Association Of Athletics Federation approved UKA and IAAF athletics track surface.
