All weather 3G, 4G, 5G, 6G football, rugby surfacing pitches is being marketed all over the UK. I recently seen an advertisement local to myself to come and play on the newest 6th generation 6G artificial grass pitch and was amazed to hear they was claiming to have the 6G sports surfaces. If you would like to know more on the costs to build an all weather pitch click the link which highlights prices to try and fit your budget.
Only last week had I heard that soccer domes and football leagues were claiming the 5th generation 5G carpet surfacing so to now hear the 6th generation was rather funny. I went down to see the pitch and actually played on the surfacing which I could explain to be a 40mm height polyethylene fibre carpet with a mix of sand and rubber infill. Basically exactly the same specification as what I know to be a 3G sports pitch synthetic surface.
4th generation 4G artificial grass is designed and marketed to be a non infill carpet and 5G is marketed to be a fully rubber infilled grass but neither of these have been passed by any governing body so would be very careful when designing or specifying these products because you want the governing bodies like FIH to have approved the hockey surface, IRB / RFU to approved the rugby union surface, RFL to of approved the rugby league surfacing and FA / FIFA to of approved the football and soccer pitches.
A third generation 3G sports pitch is basically a 32mm – 65mm pile height synthetic grass fibre infilled with both sand and rubber which gives the playing characteristics. It is installed all over the UK in schools, sports clubs, leisure centres, colleges and universities.
