It’s a familiar scene, an athlete bursts across the finish line of the athletics running track, securing the medal they’ve been working so hard for, but that iconic sport surface usually seems to be a similar colour: a bright brick red. Is that the only colour that these top quality athletic tracks can be made in? The short answer to that is no, of course not but red is the most popular colour, and you’re about to find out why.
Please contact our team if you would like a quote for installing one of these facilities at your school or club. We have completed many construction projects at various locations in the UK so we have plenty of experience in this work.
Athletics Running Track Specifications
Artificial athletics surfaces are constructed from rubber crumb with a polyurethane binder and can be made to different designs and specifications including full EPDM rubber, a structural spray polymeric and a sandwich surfacing system. These different designs can all be constructed and installed in a range of athletics surface dimensions to suit your individual project, whether it be for a school, university, athletic club or another organisation, we can design a sports facility to meet your requirements as well as your budget.
As an alternative to the polymeric rubber system, we also offer Multisport needlepunch athletics surfaces which are ideal for recreational facilities or for practise sessions. This is a fibre bonded synthetic turf system which has a sand infill to create stability and ensure that the flooring is durable enough for regular use.
As for the range of colours available for athletics running tracks, red is the most popular as it is the most UV stable and therefore won’t react and fade in the sunlight, meaning the surface is kept to a high standard for longer. Other popular colours which are less prone to fading and wearing from the the sun are green and blue, so it is likely that you will see a lot of athletics tracks installed in these colours as well. You could choose to have your athletics track constructed in a different coloured rubber other than red, green or blue, however we wouldn’t advise this as the appearance and quality of the surface is likely to decline significantly over time due to sunlight exposure and weathering.
Please contact our team if you have any questions about the different surface types and designs we can supply for running tracks. One of our specialists would be happy to provide you with some further information about costs and the whole construction process.
Range of Athletics Facilities
There are a number of different facilities which can be installed for your organisation and used for a variety of sports and events, here are a few examples:
- Running Track – A simple track marked out with individual lanes for sprinting, long distance and hurdles events.
- Long Jump/ Triple Jump Runway – High quality run up and take off surface with a sand filled landing pit.
- High Jump/ Pole Vault Runway – Run up and take off surfacing with line markings.
Each of these surfaces can be installed for schools, leisure centres and local clubs to get people involved in a range of events. The tracks can be designed for competitive standards, or just for simple recreational practise sessions. It’s completely up to you and your budget, but we would be happy to talk through all of the options so we can come up with the right one for you.
In this video you can see our installers carrying out a long jump runway construction project. This is the type of work we will often do for schools who are looking to have a small sized athletic facility installed for use in PE lessons and competitions.
